This photo belonged to Maymie Wilson Martin. There was no additional information written on the back, but it looks like a Martin family outing. Maymie is sitting on the right side of the rock. The two little boys would be Wilbur sitting in the back and LeRoy sitting in front. The man on the left should be Elmer. Judging from the ages of Wilbur and LeRoy, I would say this photo would have been taken about 1933 to 1934.
The big question is WHERE? Most likely in the Four Corners area, but not sure of the exact location. Maymie and Elmer would have been living in Dove Creek, Colorado at the time. This was probably in Utah. Maybe around Moab or Bluff, or somewhere in Monument Valley??

I think it is in Bluff, Utah near the Twin Rocks.
The rock formation the Martin family is sitting on is called Sunbonnet Rock. It is located next to the Navajo Twins Rocks which you cannot see in your photo. Both are located in Bluff, Utah.
You have a good picture of Sunbonnet Rock and what it looked like in 1934. One could not take the same photograph today with the rock in its natural state.
The Sons of the Utah Pioneers attached a historic marker to the side of Sunbonnet Rock in the 1950's. The plaque commemorates the San Juan Mission and the pioneers who settled Bluff.
In more recent years, Sunbonnet Rock has been basically ruined by commercial buildings being built right next to it on two sides. Rocks and dirt piled around the base of the rock covers the lighter ring around base of Sunbonnet. Rather sad.
You can find early postcards of Navajo twins and sunbonnet rock on ebay.

Yes Sunbonnet rock has been ruined by the buildings built right next to it. Very sad 😥 If a historic marker was placed on it and it was a historical site, why did the county and state allow commercial buildings to be built on the site????
We have a picture of this rock with some of the family members climbing on it. Probably taken in the 1980's. It was a popular place to stop and take pictures.
